With the cost of household bills rising, it might be time to look at making an investment in your future and reducing those bills longer term, by buying new energy efficient windows that save you money all year round, and improve your home’s natural warmth. Installation of new windows can also have other effects, such as reducing noise and in preventing damp or condensation. Let’s have a look to see if it’s time to replace your windows and what new windows can do to help you save money.

How to Know if it is Time to Replace Your Windows

If you’re here, you probably have an inkling that something is wrong with your windows or that you’re feeling cold air intruding inside your home. Here are some key areas to look out for:

Drafts

Well fitted window frames will not have any cold air managing to get inside due to these being correctly installed. Drafts can also be a result of a windowpane that has blown, meaning the gap between the two glass panels has opened up, thus allowing moisture to seep in. The gap between the two panels that helps to keep cold air out will have reduced. Sadly, many glass and window installers cut corners to keep costs down. You do get what you pay for, and with us, it is quality window and glass installations.

Gaps in Seals

Again, this is usually an issue with installation errors. However this can also be a result of a seal that has worn down over time. Windows installed 20+ years ago have less of a life expectancy than windows today do, where the integrity is vastly superior.

 Over Extended Seals

Most typical with UPVC, this can happen as a result of the window seals being exposed to hot temperatures in the day then much cooler temperatures in the evening. This will prevent your window from shutting correctly, meaning outside cool air can encroach upon your home and lead to issues such as damp or condensation. You can check out our guide on how to minimise this on our window condensation blog.

Windows Fogging Up On The Inside

A seal has broken and damp and condensation have already taken root. The only true fix here is to replace and refit with a completely new set of windows as the existing windows have been compromised.

So What Do I Replace My Windows With?

Triple Glazed Windows

We craft our windows using the Liniar 70mm sculptured profile system, for energy efficiency. We make them with modern multi-chambered, lead-free and fully recyclable, and durable uPVC. With advances in modern technology, Bingley Windows & Glass can now offer your triple glazed windows. Similar to double glazed windows, the triple glazed has an inert layer which prevents cold air from entering your home. The benefit here is that instead of just one layer of protection, you have two!

Toughened Glass

We are proud to say that we create all our glass in house, meaning you know that you are getting the exact quality that our testimonials imply! Toughened glass is five times stronger than standard window panes, due to our ability to heat the glass at vastly higher temperatures. The result being you are less likely to have a ‘blown’ window plane, and it will last for many more years.

Laminated Glass

Laminated glass is constructed by taking two plies of glass, then interspersing it with an ‘inter layer’ usually out of plastic which gives you a multi material finished product. The result is incredible strength and integrity, with a window that will stay intact even if one area is shattered.

There is No Better Time

A recent study conducted by British Gas placed the below statistics as the new average cost of energy bills from this April, 2022. If you have any of the above issues with your windows you could see your bills exceed the average costs, or, see them vastly improved with a new window installation project. The chart below should help you see whether this is a cost you can afford to miss.
