With recent news of increasing energy prices at the beginning of April, you may understandably be concerned about how much gas and electricity your home is consuming. Recently some statistics have suggested that the average building’s windows account for around half of heat loss throughout the year. Previous installations and now redundant glass technology have thrown another spanner into the mix, in that double glazing in the past no longer meets double glazing or even triple glazing standards today.

So What Can You Do About Improving the Temperature of Your Conservatory? So What About Making It Cooler?

The first step is identifying what is affecting the temperature of your conservatory. There are some common issues that you can look for that may be reducing the amount of warmth your conservatory is able to retain. These can include:

  • Discolouration or flakiness around your window seals
  • Visible gaps between the seals on windows or connections to the ceiling

The Style or Materials Used

This can greatly impact the temperature of your conservatory. Glass and polycarbonate as an all round material in a style such as a Lean to, Victorian or Edwardian conservatory will likely be far too cold in winter, and boiling in summer. If you wish to retain the aesthetic of your conservatory in this style, you can always approach us for a free quote in replacing the glass. We specialise in triple glazing, toughened, laminated or fire glass types which have all been proven to reduce the cost of heating your home and conservatory.

Roof Tiled Conservatories

Typically roof tiled conservatories can offer an all year round level of warmth, whilst simultaneously functioning as an increased living area, office space with hybrid working, extended kitchen space for parties and gatherings, or even a spare bedroom. This would mean that your tiled roof conservatory would enjoy the same warmth as the rest of the house in winter, and the same coolness from opening the windows and doors in summer. If you enjoy stargazing from the comfort of your Edwardian or Victorian style conservatory, this may not be for you.

If you find it is more the style or amount of opening windows that your conservatory has that creates too much warmth in summer, you can always request a free consultation on how we can adapt your conservatory as well!

So What About Making It Cooler?

We design conservatories to specification, meaning we can look at the amount of window vents that a conservatory has to benefit you during the warmer months. Obviously the best way to improve the liveable temperature throughout the year is by building a modern conservatory or by installing a solid tiled roof, which are considerably more energy efficient, but we have also thrown in some ways that you can improve the style of your conservatory as well as reduce heat in summer.

 Invest in Blinds

Preferably lighter colours. Black, or other dark colours attract heat which would further compound the problem as thicker glass types already will be attracting this. By opening your windows and opting for more earthly green, or lighter colours such as yellow, neutral, or amber can also give you more of a homely feel for winter, when you would feel the full benefits of our glass material options.

Install Air Conditioning

We are partnered with our sister company Cobbydale Construction, who also can help to redesign extensions to living spaces. Installing air conditioning however would give you immediate control over the temperature all year round.

Reduce Humidity With Plants

No matter what your style of conservatory, what better way is there to blend your home and garden together by having a light, natural space that connects you to nature? We love to see the conservatories we have designed and installed decorated, so why not show off how you have decorated them by tagging us on social media?
