As we spring into Spring, we’ve developed some of our top tips on how you can dress your windows more seasonally. Particularly for some of our customers most popular window choices, Tilt and turn, Sash and Casement Windows.

Tilt and turn windows

UPVC Tilt and turn windows have a number of products that fit well with their scope. Installing blinds on the outside of the windows recess or within the interior walls housing the window will cover you for the best light protection for that early morning sunshine, allowing you to sleep in, in peace.

As Tilt and Turn windows can also be opened inwards, choosing a design that will move with this to offer more air is advisable. That being said, shutters, blinds and curtains all are compatible with Tilt and Turn windows.

Sash windows

Sash windows are stylishly and typically accompanied by Voile curtains. They have a light material, which adds to natural light when drawn up and an airy feel to the room. Typically made of cotton, wool or silk, the lighter materials predictably allow for more light, the denser for warmth and darkness.

Intricate floral designs or the more exotic Mediterranean, particularly Moroccan looks accompany this very well. Depending on whether you want to create more light or dark, installing just the width of the window will create dark, above the window frame for more light.

Linen, silk, faux silk and velvet materials often work well with sash windows and can come in an accompaniment of colours. An option when it comes to blinds is integral blinds which are installed between the two panes of a double glazed unit. An advantage of this type of blind is that they never get dusty and don’t interfere with anything sat to the front of the window on the windowsill. Also they aren’t impeding when opening a top sash which is often the case with conventional blind options.

A potential disadvantage is they can’t be changed once chosen so decor choice needs to be strongly considered.

Casement windows

Casement windows, or windows that can be tilted are often best accompanied by shutters. These shutters will not move regardless of how far your window is open, creating a lighter airer feel with as much fresh air as you’d like.

Parisian shutters come highly recommended by stylists for a very vogue and elegant finish. If you’d like to be more ecological, you could use reclaimed wood shutters, which using the right material can give you that beach wood effect, inside your home.

Blinds can also be compatible with casement windows. You could install the blind just above the glass so that it can move with the window, which requires a lot less fabric too.

Overall tips regardless of your window choice

Be bold – brighter colours to uplift you. This could be in the form of curtain fabric, curtain ties, decorative curtain poles.

If you are sensitive to light – consider using two blinds to trap out the light, or installing blackout blinds. You could also consider shutters.

Incorporate contrasting colours and textures – Think about the style of your room. If you have a white or cream coloured wall, adding contrasting textures such as green and brown, pink and grey, any colour that really contrasts against each other will lighten up the room.

Choose decorative tiebacks – why choose a tieback the same colour as your curtains or blinds? If you have light green curtains for example, you could create a funkiness by opting for purple.

Get creative with curtain poles – you can opt for a longer pole for a wider and lighter material which can then be adapted for winter too. You can also find decorative curtain poles, or decorate them yourself!

There are many contrasting perspectives on how best to style your windows, with which materials, and for which season. For Spring, lighter and brighter is best, with more colourful varieties to lift the density of winter.
