Different Types of Conservatory: What’s Available to Me?

So, you’ve thought long and hard about it and decided that you want to have a conservatory installed. Unfortunately, though, the planning and decisions don’t end there. With a wide variety of different types of conservatory available, you still have to decide on which style you’d prefer. Here, Bingley Windows & Glass Co. Ltd take a look at the different options available to you, and some of the advantages of each.

Lean-to conservatories

One of the simplest types of the conservatory on our list, lean-to styles consist of a single sloped roof, with the body of the design attached to the house. Where necessary, the lean-to conservatory can also fit into a corner without taking up too much space. For those of you who don’t want your new conservatory to be too intrusive into the rest of your garden, or are limited in terms of space, this variation is a great option.

Edwardian conservatories

The Edwardian conservatory aims to allow as much light as possible into the room. With this aim in mind, the rectangular base of the structure is often set out away from the house a little more than with lean-to conservatories, incorporating a standalone roof. This style’s ridged roof helps to add a traditional, almost gothic element to your home and is a great choice for those wanting a spacious, aesthetic conservatory. Generally, these types of conservatory suit both modern and traditional homes.

Victorian conservatories

Similarly to our Edwardian variations, Victorian conservatories are set out from the house more than their Lean-to counterparts. Often, they will be more curved than Edwardian conservatories and generally suit older, more traditional properties. The curved effect is achieved through adopting a number of individual glass panes, allowing for an effective, 180-degree view.
