Your front door is the gateway to your home; and, depending on the colour of your door, it can say a lot about you. We often associate different attributes, feelings, and characteristics with colours. We as humans like to link things to specific colours. For example, when I say the word ‘jealousy’, I can almost guarantee that the first colour that popped into your head was ‘green’. Was I right?

With this in mind, what does your front door colour say about you? What associations and connotations does it conjure up for people? You may be asking yourself: why does this matter? It doesn’t and it does. Your front door can be a statement about who you are. After all, it is the first visual impression people have about you before entering your home. When choosing a new front door for your home, it can be crucial to think about style, colour, and the impression you want to give off to the world.

What does the colour of your front door say about you? Let’s take a look at the most common door colours…

Black

A black front door can symbolise order and control, and tell people that you’re sophisticated and authoritative. One of the most famous doors that is black is No.10 Downing Street. Although, the reason it’s black in appearance is said to be because of two centuries of pollution.

Red

A bright red front door could tell everyone that you’re daring, exciting, and vibrant, while a darker red door can mean you’re warm and inviting. If you’re a believer in Feng Shui, then for you a red door can create welcoming energy.

Also, FUN FACT: in Scotland, homeowners used to paint their front door red to signify they had paid off their mortgage!

White

A white front door could tell everyone that you’re clean, organised, simple, and serene. But, this is also arguably one of the most common front door colours, so it could also show everyone that you are happy with status quo and not really that bothered about your front door appearance; you’re a blender, not a pioneer and white is just fine with you.

Blue

A blue front door could mean that you’re prosperous and positive (think royal blue), calm and grounded (a darker shade of blue), or friendly and sincere (powder blue).

Grey

A grey front door is often associated with intelligence or being dignified and is a very popular choice. Nowadays, the interior of many of the rooms in our homes are grey. Therefore, this could also show the world that you are very stylish and on-trend right now.

So the big question is: what colour is your front door, and does it fit your personality?
